Netscape 6.1 is the latest release of the next-generation browser from Netscape. The company decided to skip the next point upgrade for the Communicator 4.x browser and head straight to version 6.

Netscape has rebuilt its browser's engine from the ground up and sports an entirely new interface. New features include the following:

• A fast-surfing, standards-compliant browser
• An e-mail client that lets you check a wide array of accounts, from AOL to Netscape Webmail
• Excellent privacy tools. such as the Cookie Manager and Password Manager
• Builder tools that almost fully support the standards for HTML 4.0, XML 1.0, CSS1, key parts of CSS2, ECMA-262, and the Level 1 DOM
• A customizable interface that offers built-in support for multiple skins or themes
• The My Sidebar navigational tool

Note: This download uses a "smart" installer; after downloading "N6Setup.exe", double-click on the file to start the install. You can choose between a typical and Complete Netscape installation. The download file size for full installation is 26MB.

Netscape is licensed as freeware and is therefore free to download, use and keep.
